WoodGroup wins Sakhalin-2 work

Aberdeen-based service provider Wood Group has landed a technical support services contract from the Gazprom-led consortium operating the Sakhalin-2 oil and gas project in Russia.

The five-year contract, with two one-year extension options, will see Wood Group provide brownfield drilling upgrade services at the project.

It expands on the existing work Wood Group already carries out at Sakhalin-2 with the company already providing engineering and construction support, including studies and modifications, to offshore and onshore assets on Sakhalin Island over the last 10 years.

The assets include the Piltun-Astokhskoye-A, Piltun-Astokhskoye-B and Lunskoye-A offshore platforms, the onshore processing facilities, liquefied natural gas plant, oil export terminal and tanker loading unit.

The latest contract will be delivered by the company's engineering team based in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on Sakhalin Island and supported by its offices in Australia, Norway, China and the UK.

Wood Group also revealed the technical support services contract will see it develop a new working relationship with Russian design institute Gasproektengineering AOJSC (GPE).

Wood Group said GPE would play a significant role in supporting service delivery on the contract, working closely with the company across the range and scope of services and asset base.

"This is an exciting and strategically important relationship for the future and one which underlines our ongoing commitment to Russian national content and development,” Wood Group chief executive Dave Stewart said.

“We look forward to working in close collaboration with GPE on the safe and successful delivery of this contract."

Sakhalin-2 involves the development of the Piltun-Astokhskoye oilfield and the Lunskoye gas field in the Okhotsk Sea.

The project is operated by Sakhalin Energy, a joint venture consortium consisting of Gazprom (50%), Shell (27.5%), Mitsui (12.5%) and Mitsubishi (10%).
